GI Base 2.0: Database of Scotland’s Green Infrastructure plants
Abstract
GIBase 2.0 provides an updated picture of the plant species used across major Green Infrastructure projects in Scotland, based on 126 planning applications from 24 local authorities. The study identifies consistent patterns such as low species diversity, variable specification quality, and frequent substitutions during procurement, alongside differing levels of biosecurity awareness across sectors. It also explores how existing resources, including the UK Plant Health Risk Register, might be made more accessible for practitioners, and introduces early-stage tools such as a restructured risk dataset and a draft Product Data Template to support clearer, evidence‑based plant specification. While the outputs are exploratory, they highlight opportunities for improving information flow, supporting more consistent procurement practices, and integrating biosecurity considerations into routine design and planning processes.
