Chris Quine
Chris is sector lead for ‘forestry’ within the Plant Health Centre. He was recently appointed as the Chief Scientist for Forest Research (FR) and was formerly the Head of Centre for Ecosystems, Society and Biosecurity and Head of Station at FR’s Northern Research Station. He has conducted applied research in temperate/boreal forest systems on topics such as wind risk, biodiversity, decision support, and ecosystem services. He has expertise in knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary research and has recently contributed to two LWEC Tree Health and Plant Biosecurity Initiative projects (FOREMOD, UNPICK), and leads the work on resilience within the Defra ‘Future Proofing Plant Health’ programme. His first degree was in geography, followed by an MSc in forestry, and after a period working in forest management he joined FR and undertook a part-time PhD in forest ecology at Edinburgh University. He was awarded an honorary professorship by Stirling University in September 2014 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters.
